  11. O.K. I'm at a total loss here.

  13. Two days ago I bought an internal Seagate (ST31200N) 1 Gig SCSI 2 hard drive
  14. from a guy in my office building. It was originally installed in a PC Clone 
  15. File Server running a BBS.

  17. My intention was to put it in my A3000 and use it for some much needed 
  18. additional space :) After a Low-Level format, Partitioning, and High-Level 
  19. Format, I did just that. I then proceeded to copy about 600 Megs worth of 
  20. data on to the thing wich went fine. The data copied to the drive with no 
  21. errors and is in perfect shape. (I've checked several times...)

  23. However... I can't get the data OFF of the drive onto any other device (hard 
  24. drive, floppy, or even ram disk) without problems.

  26. If I try to copy more than several files at a time from the new drive it 
  27. locks up for a few seconds periodically durring the copy and takes forever.

  29. The bad part is that any of the files that it was copying when it froze are 
  30. always corrupt. Complete in size, but corrupt. The same file will copy just 
  31. fine IF I COPY IT BY IT'SELF. But try more than three or four files at a time 
  32. and WHAM.

  34. I am presently removing all the files from this new drive by copying them ONE 
  35. AT A TIME to a safe drive then deleting them. This will of course take 
  36. forever!

  38. ANY help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

  40. I currently have three other drives (all Quantums) ranging from 100 Meg to 1.
  41. 2 Gig, and have never had any problems with the SCSI interface or termination.

  43. I have changed unit I.D.s, changed the drives position in the SCSI chain, 
  44. booted from floppy with no programs running, and even played with the parity 
  45. and termination jumpers on the new and old drives. Nothing ever changed 
  46. anything. (I used a test directory with three graphics files in it for this 
  47. test, one of these files always got corrupted if I tried to batch copy them)

  49. There seems to be know apparent reason for this in that the drive works fine 
  50. for any function other than batch copying.
