- O.K. I'm at a total loss here.
-
- Two days ago I bought an internal Seagate (ST31200N) 1 Gig SCSI 2 hard drive
- from a guy in my office building. It was originally installed in a PC Clone
- File Server running a BBS.
-
- My intention was to put it in my A3000 and use it for some much needed
- additional space :) After a Low-Level format, Partitioning, and High-Level
- Format, I did just that. I then proceeded to copy about 600 Megs worth of
- data on to the thing wich went fine. The data copied to the drive with no
- errors and is in perfect shape. (I've checked several times...)
-
- However... I can't get the data OFF of the drive onto any other device (hard
- drive, floppy, or even ram disk) without problems.
-
- If I try to copy more than several files at a time from the new drive it
- locks up for a few seconds periodically durring the copy and takes forever.
-
- The bad part is that any of the files that it was copying when it froze are
- always corrupt. Complete in size, but corrupt. The same file will copy just
- fine IF I COPY IT BY IT'SELF. But try more than three or four files at a time
- and WHAM.
-
- I am presently removing all the files from this new drive by copying them ONE
- AT A TIME to a safe drive then deleting them. This will of course take
- forever!
-
- ANY help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
-
- I currently have three other drives (all Quantums) ranging from 100 Meg to 1.
- 2 Gig, and have never had any problems with the SCSI interface or termination.
-
- I have changed unit I.D.s, changed the drives position in the SCSI chain,
- booted from floppy with no programs running, and even played with the parity
- and termination jumpers on the new and old drives. Nothing ever changed
- anything. (I used a test directory with three graphics files in it for this
- test, one of these files always got corrupted if I tried to batch copy them)
-
- There seems to be know apparent reason for this in that the drive works fine
- for any function other than batch copying.
-
- Please respond through E-Mail if you can to rom@romans.com, but I will check
- back in these Amiga News Groups when I can.
-
- Thank you in advance....
